In Middle School, art is considered a core subject in general education.
It is available at all grade levels to all students. The Art programme
offers students an opportunity to analyse, talk about and create art.
Students will use a range of two-dimensional and three-dimensional media
and methods including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, construction
and papier mache. The themes, content, experiences and work requirements
are a part of a developmental sequence from grades 6 to 8.
The goal of the Art units is to help students develop:
- the ability to define problems
- the ability to make choices
- the ability to reach creative solutions
- visual discrimination
- sensory awareness
- techniques and skills with which to create and record ideas
- art language and art appreciation
