Grade 6 : Technology

Technology exists as a single subject in the MYP in terms of its aims, objectives and assessment criteria.  Each unit of work has problem solving and inquiry at its core and requires students to investigate problems and use the technology design cycle as a tool to design, plan, create and evaluate products/solutions.  The product/solution that students create may be a prototype, product or system that students have generated independently.

In the middle school, technology includes:

  • Design Technology
  • Computer technology

Students will complete units of work that focus on developing design and computing skills and these units will cover the three main branches of MYP technology: information, materials and systems.

Examples of OFS technology units include:

  • Prototype/product construction
  • Electronic art: Using Adobe Photoshop
  • Movie making
  • Robotics
  • Web site design

The units of work covered at each grade level in middle school are documented and explained on the OFS technology website and include a range of interdisciplinary units that highlight the close links with this subject and all other MYP subjects.
