Technology in the middle school comprises of both Design Technology (DT) and
Computer Technology (CT). This core subject area is timetabled once per week for
mainstream students. Assessment grades are calculated from the combination of
criterion-linked levels of achievement gained throughout the semester.
There are no end of unit tests or examinations in Technology and the curriculum is
developed to run as a series of problems/challenges that require students to use the
design cycle in the production and evaluation of a product/solution. The assessed
work takes the form of a ‘design folder’, which all students submit at the end of a unit
of work. This design folder should be organized into clearly marked sections that
correspond to the stages of the design cycle and these form the criteria for technology,
namely:
- Investigate
- Design
- Plan
- Create
- Evaluate
- Attitudes in Technology
