Our Grade 1 Programme of Inquiry
This semester we will be focusing on three Units of Inquiry. The units are titled, Days of Our Lives, Growing Things and We Are What We Eat.  Please find below the discovery and experiences we will be “diving” into in our classrooms.

  • Where and when significant events happened in our lives

Central Idea and lines of inquiry:  Plants have certain requirements in order to grow and survive.

  • What plants need to grow
  • How different plants have particular requirements.

Central Idea and lines of inquiry: A balanced diet and exercise can help to keep our bodies healthy and working well.

  • the impact of food and exercise on our bodies
  • making healthy lifestyle choices

Possible home discussions and activities:

  • Looking at pictures of your child from infant to now
  • Sharing fun personal and family moments from your life
  • Students will form interview questions to ask their parents
  • All about me activities, drawing pictures and sharing what is unique about me

Possible home discussions and activities:

  • Students are exploring the various requirements that plants need to grow.
  • Growing and taking care of a plant
  • Keeping a plant log  of observations of external factors and measurement of growth
  • Family visits of different gardens around Singapore

Possible home discussions and activities:

  • Students learn about the food pyramids
  • Children are sorting and classifying various food groups
  • Keeping a log of daily  food and exercise choices for lunch and snack.
  • Create various healthy snacks together such as fruit salad and healthy sandwiches.
  • Discussing food choices while at the supermarket and restaurants.
