Writing and Grammar
This semester our students will focus on the text types Recount, Procedure and Report writing. Narrative writing will also be covered throughout the semester. Each text type is linked to our Programme of Inquiry. Grammar and writing skills will be an ongoing focus.

Reading
PM Benchmarks and STAR testing have enabled Grade Five teachers to gain a deeper understanding of students' individual needs. Classroom programmes will support our Programme of Inquiry, place an emphasis on personal enjoyment and target specific reading skills. All students will be required to keep a personal Reading Journal and will be encouraged to read a diverse range of material. Students are expected to read regularly for homework.

Spelling
All students will receive spelling blends and topic based words on a weekly basis as part of their class spelling and homework. The topic words relate to the units being taught in Language Arts, Maths and P.O.I within our classes.

Listening and Speaking
All students will be given the opportunity to be involved in class presentations, group inquiry discussions and to be part of class performances in assemblies.
