Japanese Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Mrs. Lim’s Japanese class!

My name is Mariko Lim.  I am your child's Japanese teacher.
I have been teaching Japanese at Overseas Family School for 15 years. I came from Tokyo, Japan.  I am married to a Singaporean and have two children. I love reading, cooking and travelling.

Living in Singapore, I often see many people here having great benefit and opportunities with their multilingual language skills in their daily life.
Now, it is my pleasure to be able to help my dear students to acquire strong communication skills in the Japanese language.

In the Japanese class, students learn Japanese by participating in various activities organized around the use of Japanese.  It is aimed at providing students with an enjoyable learning experience and also at developing an awareness of the role and nature of language and culture, in everyday life.  This class is for non-native speakers of Japanese.

Text books
Your child is going to check out the Japanese textbook soon under his/her name.  Students are going to use this textbook as one of the resources as well as a reference to do their homework. So, students are to keep the book at home until I ask them to bring it to school.

Homework
Grade 3, 4 and 5 will start their homework in September. Grade 2 will start in October and Grade 1 will start from the second semester.
Homework will be given every Tuesday and is expected to be in by Friday of the same week.  In case your child is unable to do the homework, due to personal reasons, he/ she is to bring a parent’s note to the teacher so that I can make a flexible arrangement for the assignment.  I sincerely hope homework will help the students to review vocabulary that they learn and to acquire self-study skills.

You will get more information about your child’s Japanese class by attending the coming “ Back to School Night”.  I look forward to meeting you there.  If you have any questions about the Japanese class, please do  contact me by e-mail( mariko_lim@ ofs.edu.sg)

Best wishes,
Mariko
