There are three art teachers in the ES Art department this year. We are Mdm. Chia, Mrs Groufsky and Miss Starkey
Miss Chia (part-time)
Mdm. Chia has just joined OFS as a part time art teacher. Mdm. Chia graduated from Nangyang Academy of Fine Arts, California College of Arts and Crafts as well as The Canada School of Make-up Art (Drama & Special Effects). She has worked in the advertising industry as a designer for eight years before making a career switch to teaching. She did her diploma in Montessori Method of Teaching and has just completed her degree in Childhood Development with Monash University. Mdm. Chia has been teaching for the past ten years since her career switch which include being involved in planning and implementing a High/Scope learning program that incorporates Montessori Method of teaching into the curriculum in the preschool she worked for. Visual arts and the teaching of visual arts remained her first passion as well as specialty and she is especially excited to be focusing on the teaching of visual arts at OFS.
Mrs Groufsky has taught at OFS for 4 years, teaching Forth Grade for two years and Art for two years. She studied to be teacher in Auckland, New Zealand and graduated after four years with a Diploma of Teaching and a degree in Education-majoring in Art.
Prior to joining OFS, Mrs Groufsky taught in New Zealand for 7 years. She has a passion for children’s art and spent most of her holidays in New Zealand, running painting workshops for children in the community.
Miss Starkey joined OFS as an art teacher in 2001. She did an Honours degree in Textile Design in the UK and later took a Postgraduate course to teach. She has lived in N. Wales, England and Singapore. Prior to OFS, She taught at an English immersion kindergarten as a homebase teacher.
