There are 4 music teachers in the music dept this year 2006/7. Mr McDonald, Mr Grant Ms Chiu and Catherine Oakley.

Eric McDonald has been at OFS for nine years. This highly qualified and experienced musician comes from England and has worked in schools in London before coming to the Far East. He also has been a professional musician and has traveled widely as a pianist and composer. Eric is also a jazz pianist. His specialism is piano but he also performs on the horn and cello.

Eric has developed the instrumental programme at OFS where all grade four and five students learn the basics of playing strings, brass and woodwind instruments.

Eric has also written a considerable amount of original educational music and other literature based on the PYP programme. This material is often used in the music curriculum. Eric is currently developing new programmes for grade 5 where the students develop skills in group playing and vocal techniques. Eric has recently completed a Master of Arts degree at the Singapore National University.

In his free time Eric performs with a prestigious local Symphony Orchestra.

Miss Chiu joined OFS as a music teacher in 2001. She has taught 5 years in the music dept and 1 year in IT. Prior to joining OFS she taught Music Technology at the local elementary schools. She is a graduate from the University of London and has been teaching music for many years. Miss Chiu has a wide experience in teaching all areas of music including theory, music and movement, music history. She is currently a member of the Singapore Symphony Chorus.

Mr Paul Grant
Hi! I have been teaching music, for over three years at OFS. I really enjoy the opportunity to interact with the children creating music. I have always had an interest in music and started piano myself whilst I was in primary school. My personal areas of interest involve music for multimedia, music technology and music for special needs.
