Grade 6 : Humanities

INTEGRATED CURRICULUM

The humanities programme is structured around key integrated topics involving
political, economic, historical, social, legal, and geographical aspects. Students will
gain knowledge and understanding of cultures and environments as well as the
essential research and analysis skills to develop and communicate their appreciation
of humanity.

The following is an overview of topics studied and their content.

GRADE 6 HUMANITIES

1. Our World of People and Places.

  • Human and Environmental geography - where people live around the world
  • Who we are and who I am

2. Early Human Environments.

  • Changing Environments and Hominids
  • Prehistoric People
  • Group project: survival board game

3. The Evolution of Civilizations

  • Exploring the Past
  • From farms to cities - origins of civilization
  • Human ingenuity and the growth of civilizations
  • Field-guide to a civilization

4. The Growth of Settlements

  • Choosing early river settlement sites.
  • The development of settlements over time.
