Delegates from 8 countries assembled in the Auditorium for the Grade 5 Model United Nations at Overseas Family School's (MUNOFS) General Assembly. Dressed in formal attire students looked very professional and ready to tackle big issues. Ambassadors shared country speeches and Chairs of committees read final resolutions, which were voted on.
During the unit, the students were introduced to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and it was powerful to see Grade 5 students fighting for global issues and trying to find solutions to the problems we face in the world today. The MUNOFS program, starts in Grade 4 and builds each year with the option of students taking it right through to Grade 12. Students developed diplomacy skills as they shared their country's perspective and tried to persuade other delegates to their way of thinking.
Two students, Madhav Nerlekar and Jia Singh, were chosen as Secretary Generals and they eloquently and effortlessly ran the General Assembly. "It was a very successful General Assembly and all speakers shared their perspectives clearly. I was proud to be the Secretary General for the Grade 5 MUNOFS Conference this year," said Madhav.
