Elementary School Grade 5 Model United Nations 2020

The Grade 5, Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. The Exit Point of the MUN Unit of Learning, is a two day General Assembly Conference.

This year, students inquired into:

• the structure and purpose of the UN as an organization
• their adopted home base country
• issues around the Global Goals for Sustainable Development which came into effect in September 2015
• the effects COVID-19 has had on the continued development of the Global Goals

The students developed protocols within their committee rooms and learned specifically about the role delegates play in the UN. A variety of personal skills have been developed as they have learned to lobby and negotiate with others. It has been wonderful to witness these skills in action.
