Elementary School Grade 5 Model United Nations 2021

Our Grade 5 Model United Nations (MUN) unit ended with our General Assembly Conference. MUN is a simulation in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations. Model United Nations is fully embedded into the Grade 5 program here at Overseas Family School.

This year, students have inquired into:

• the structure and purpose of the UN as an organisation
• their adopted home base country
• Issues around the Global Goals for Sustainable Development which came into effect in September 2015
• the effects COVID-19 has had on the continued development of the Global Goals

The students developed protocols within their Committee Rooms and learnt specifically about the role delegates play in the United Nations. A variety of personal and 21^st Century skills have been developed and they have learnt to lobby and negotiate with others throughout the unit.
