On Thursday March 17th, the OFS Tigers U14 Basketball team hosted The Lions from Stamford American International School. The teams were separated in three pods to comply with the current Covid-19 SMMs. The teams were excited to don the new Tigers uniform and represented themselves and the school well.
In their very first Basketball match in 12 months for some and in 2 years for most of our students, the experience was a challenging one with valuable learning moments. Coach Elgear and Coach Petherick wanted their young charges to run some plays they have been training in practise.
Pod A ran a number of the practiced offensive strategies. This experience highlighted the need to get comfortably physical with their opponents and 'box out' to win rebounds.
After a nervous first quarter for Pod B, confidence and progress began to grow with this group of young men demonstrating their "cut and drive" to the basket resulting in great scoring shots.
Pod C made the most of their opportunities which they did to great effect, finishing well and finding the basket time and again. The team as a whole grew under the pressure of a match situation and the learning that took place was evident setting themselves up well for a number of matches in the coming weeks. Our opponents were very complimentary on some of the finishing displayed and the overall manner in which the game was played.
The 14U team will travel to UWC East on Tuesday March 22 for their next fixture.
