An international online chess event for children organised by FC Bayern Munich and OFS chess teachers brought together children from Argentina, South Africa, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, and Germany. Following last year's first "Reds against Racism - Checkmate to racism" event, schools, clubs, and chess organizations have once again used this event to spread awareness about this important topic. The pre-tournament program included a video conference featuring contributions from all participating teams. The main sporting event was the team battle, where almost 300 students took part. The race for the tournament win was close for a long time, but a team from Argentina eventually came out on top! A Junior team from the United Kingdom scored 227 points, a team from Werder Bremen scored 212 points and our OFS team was placed 4th with 195 points. All teams did very well, and of course this event is not primarily about winning the competition. Having fun and using the opportunity for an exchange across cultural and political boarders is the main purpose. And this makes all participants winners!
Following the team battle another highlight was offered to the participants who wanted to continue playing for another 60 minutes. In an individual tournament the students had the chance to play with some Grandmasters and other top players who not only played in the tournament, but also commented live on their games while playing.
