From May 1st to May 3rd, the World Chess Federation FIDE organized the Blitz and Rapid World Chess Championship for cadet players of various age categories on the beautiful island of Rhodes, Greece. Under the age of eight years, Ashwath Kaushik from Grade 1 made history by becoming the World Rapid Chess Champion. He achieved a fantastic score with eight wins and one draw. Ashwath's games were watched online by his coaches and family from around the world and they might have been more nervous than he was! In the final ranking he was half a point clear of the second ranked player whom he beat in round 3 and was even two points ahead of the player in the third place.
