On Tuesday 11 April and Wednesday 12 April students, teachers, parents and visiting gradewide homebase classes attended the 2023 Grade 5 EXPO. The Expo was developed through the IPC Unit of Work, The Holiday Show. Expo is an opportunity for each student to celebrate their knowledge, skills, understandings and personal goals that they have developed during their time in the Elementary School, through their exhibits.
This academic year, the students chose a particular holiday destination as a topic and looked at it through the lens of sustainability and how we as tourist can support and respect the holiday destinations efforts with regard to sustainable practices.
Through the process students further developed their 21st Century Skills such as Research Skills; Thinking Skills; Communication Skills; Social Skills and Self Management Skills. It also caters for the development of our IPC Personal Goals. Students explore personal, local and global perspectives of world issues. They further developed the ability to organise themselves, work in collaborative groups, build a deeper understanding, present their findings and work together as a team to achieve their goals.
The Expo provided an authentic setting where students were provoked to think about the world they live in, the issues that confront us as a global community, and their role and responsibilities to themselves, others and the environment. We were proud of the confident and thoughtful presentations shared with the larger school community.
