Elementary School Grade 5 Model United Nations

Our Grade 5 Model United Nations (MUN) unit culminated in a General Assembly Conference last week. The MUN simulation is a fantastic opportunity for students learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations. Model United Nations is fully embedded into the Grade 5 program here at Overseas Family School.

This year, students have inquired into:

• The structure and purpose of the UN as an organisation
• Their adopted home base country
• Issues around the Global Goals for Sustainable Development which came into effect in September 2015.

The students developed protocols within their Committee Rooms and learned specifically about the role delegates play in the United Nations. A variety of personal and 21st Century skills have been developed and they have learned to lobby and negotiate with others throughout the unit.
